Job Duties
State Compliance
  • Review state income and franchise tax returns
  • Review state estimated quarterly tax and extension payments
  • Review apportionment and state modification analysis
  • Manage state income tax audits and respond to notices
State Provision
  • Review the blended state income tax rate
  • Review multistate accrual calculations
  • Calculate return to provision true-ups
  • Assess the realizability of state deferred tax assets
  • Review state income tax account reconciliations and rollforwards
  • Research and planning projects to minimize the Company’s state income and franchise taxes
  • Provide state income and franchise tax calculations for monthly forecast models
  • Evaluate the state income and franchise tax consequences of corporate transactions
  • Monitor, evaluate and communicate multistate legislation updates
  • Manage, coach, develop and mentor State Tax Specialist
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Requires CPA license or be an eligible candidate for CPA exam
  • 7+ years experience, including 5+ years of corporate state income and franchise tax compliance / provision experience
  • Strong technical experience related to state and local tax issues (ie; apportionment, separate accounting, various state modifications and corporate transactions)
  • Requires strong working relations with various groups within the Tax Department
  • Ability to interact effectively with other departments and various levels of management
  • Excellent time management and communication skills
  • Oil and Gas industry experience preferred
  • Experience with Corptax and advanced functions of Excel a plus
Candidate must be a team player and be eager to work on a variety of SALT issues.  This role is predominately a manager/reviewer role, however special projects or deadlines may require the preparation of returns, reports, presentations, etc.  This position reports to the Director of U.S. compliance.
