The Field Systems Administrator will be responsible for the strategic design and development of an effective and cost conscious field communications infrastructure for the EOG SAT Division.  It will be important for this person to interact with San Antonio Division IS to ensure the field infrastructure is compatible with the EOG network.   In addition, this person will coordinate the implementation and maintenance of the field systems with EOG assets located in the field.  This person will act as liaison to the division automation group and the Houston IS infrastructure team.  This person will coordinate with division regulatory, land and Houston IS to ensure installation of field equipment and infrastructure meets with state and federal requirements and complies with EOG policies. Other responsibilities will include the following: 
  • Field infrastructure - The Field Systems Administrator will work with the operations, automation and SCADA groups to develop a strategy for field communications specific to each area. This person will design field infrastructure solutions within the framework of the division strategy to support projects and provide the required connectivity. In addition, this person will oversee the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of the San Antonio field communications infrastructure. This individual shall analyze and resolve field infrastructure problems in a timely and accurate manner, and provide end-user training where required. 
  • Field infrastructure design considerations - The Field Systems Administrator must be familiar with areal topographic analysis in support of line-of-sight (LOS) path study and assessment, as well as the technologies required to develop point-to-point and point-to-multipoint solutions for wireless field communications for both licensed and unlicensed frequencies. In addition, this person must have an understanding of wired connectivity, i.e. copper and fiber and its importance in distributed remote communications solutions. The infrastructure design will ensure reliable communications from the division office to the well and/or facility site. 
  • Field infrastructure coordination - This role will interact with division IS to develop solutions to support field operations that ensure the integrity of EOG's network, data, video, wireless serviced by the equipment deployed. This includes developing redundancy, providing for remote management and making additional equipment available to maximize system availability and uptime.  
  • Exploration of new technology/data sources -- The Field Systems Administrator will seek opportunities for research, analysis, and integration of new communication technologies. They will act as liaison with 3rd party vendors and the division.  
  • Documentation -- This person is responsible to develop documentation for all key supported processes. 

 
Job Requirements

 

Minimum of 2 years' experience in trouble shooting IT/IS issues with a strong technical background. High School Diploma or GED required, College degree preferred. 
 
Position will be filled at a level commensurate with experience.
